Establishment of Video Conferencing Facilities


A concept paper on VoIP and Video Conferencing was prepared in the month of August 2006 and was submitted for a principal approval for establishment of VPN for installation of value added services. The DG, ICFRE desired a presentation on the subject before according principal approval. The presentation was made on 28.11.2006 by Dr. A.K. Srivastava, ADG (Admin.) and Dr. Harish Kumar, I/C IT Division, ICFRE before the DG, ICFRE and other senior officers.

The basic need of Voice over Internet Protocol VoIP, Video Conferencing starts from a homogeneous institute wide area network which is called a Virtual Private Network. The major Government and Non-Government research and other organizations like ICAR, etc. are rapidly adopting the technology to make pace with the organizational needs. VPN being the basic requirement of Video conferencing facility, a proposal for establishment of VPN was moved for the approval of competent authority which was approved by the DG, ICFRE in principle.

After completing the feasibility study for establishment of VPN at all locations of ICFRE a proposal for invitation of tender for establishment of VPN was prepared and got approved by the competent.

The commissioning of Video Conferencing among ICFRE Institutes with the rest of the world has been started on 01.05.2008
